The Director of Valencia City's Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC), Mr. Alejandro Laroza said that of the 10 people hurt, four of them are in the hospital. Marife Caseres, 35 and her 3 year old Gerald, whose house partially collapsed are just some of the victims of the tremors. Another victim is Daisy Suarez, 29 years old, who was hurt after her house collapsed.
The epicenter was traced 32 kilometers southwest of the town of Malaybalay with a magnitude of 5.2 which struck yesterday at 5:43 p.m. The quake was strongest in Valencia City with intensity 5. Intensity 3 in Quezon and Malaybalay, Intensity 2 in Cagayan de Oro City and Intensity 1 in Hibok-Hibok, Camiguin.
PHIVOLCS describes Intensity 5 as a "strong" earthquake. Intensity 5 is "generally felt by most people indoors and outdoors."
No Electricty After
Power supply in Valencia City was cut off after the tremors. As of the time of this posting, they are still experiencing brown-outs. Partially, 13 buildings had cracks, two of which are commercial buildings located in Valencia City. The said buildings did not open today.
Forty patients from the Sanitarium Hospital, in Valencia, were evacuated. The building had cracks, but authorities guaranteed that it is not capable to collapse the building.
