Despite UFC President Dana White saying that Jones can potentially move to the heavyweight division in the future, the 24-year-old Jones says he has unfinished business at light heavyweight.
"I have no intentions of moving out of my division any time soon," Jones said in an ESPN chat. "I feel like there's plenty of work to be done in the light heavyweight division."
Jones went 4-0 in 2011, defeating top 10 contender Ryan Bader, dominating Mauricio "Shogun" Rua to win the title and defending it twice, one against former champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and also against Machida.
Still, Jones says he isn't done yet at light heavyweight, and expects to face tough contenders Rashad Evans and Phil Davis sometime in the future.
"I'll fight them both sooner or later," he said.
Evans and Davis will face each other in the main event of UFC on FOX 2. Another possible opponent for Jones is veteran Dan Henderson.
Toughest test
Meanwhile, Jones said Machida was probably his toughest fight in the UFC.
Although he successfully retained his champion, Jones had trouble in the first round, with Machida confusing him with his in-and-out movement and counter-striking.
He admitted that he had trouble understanding Machida's rhythm.
"I felt like I was playing the game, figuring him out," Jones said of the first round against Machida.
In the second round, however, Jones was able to get Machida in a clinch, and from there proceeded to choke out the former champion.
He considers the fight a learning experience.
"I learned that I need to not stand still after throwing kicks," Jones said. "I need to improve my ability to throw punches in bunches."
